The Allurion program is designed to help patients achieve the best possible outcomes from the Allurion gastric balloon placement. The Allurion gastric balloon is an inflatable device that is placed in your stomach for a limited time. The purpose is to make you feel full sooner so that you eat less.
The Allurion gastric balloon is an innovative non-surgical treatment. Allurion is the only gastric balloon that does not require surgery or anaesthesia for placement. The balloon is packaged as a pill that is swallowable so that placement can occurs during a standard consultation in our clinic. The balloon naturally deflates and passes in a bowel movement on its own after about 4 months.
*Individual results will vary.
Swallow capsule containing deflated balloon attached to thin catheter
First x-ray to confirm correct placement of balloon in your stomach

The Allurion gastric balloon is a medical procedure. Like all medical procedures, it may cause adverse effects. Clinical studies have shown the most common side effects are temporary abdominal discomfort and stomach upset. Serious adverse events are rare (reported in less than 0.34% of patients). Our team will review all possible side effects with you in detail prior to the procedure.
Brellah Weight Loss Clinic delivers the Allurion gastric balloon within a program including tools and ongoing support to help you achieve the best possible outcomes. The balloon, tucked inside a capsule, is swallowed and filled with water during a brief 15-minute doctor’s visit.
Approximately 4 months later, it self-empties and passes out naturally.
The Allurion Balloon takes up space in your stomach, reducing your appetite and helping you to feel full faster and for longer.
99.9% of people succeed in swallowing the balloon.1 If you have trouble, your doctor will be on hand to help the capsule on its way.*
Everyone is different – some people feel little or no discomfort, while others experience symptoms such as nausea, fatigue, abdominal cramping and vomiting.
These temporary symptoms can usually be treated with commonly used medications prescribed by your doctor.
The Allurion Programme has been proven to support an average of 10-15% total body weight loss after approximately 4 months.1
Plus, you can boost your weight loss with a second consecutive Allurion Balloon and lose an average of 23% of your body weight in 12 months.2
There are some dietary recommendations before placement and during the first week as you adapt to the balloon.
Your nutritionist will be there every step of your journey, providing support and guidance. They will create personalised eating plans tailored to your specific needs and progress. You will also gain valuable knowledge about food and nutrition that will set you up for long-term success.
Most people can return to normal activities within a day or two. Depending on your job (for example, if you operate heavy machinery), it can be a good idea to book a few days off work just in case.
Some patients feel the balloon at the beginning, but most become accustomed quickly and even forget it is there.
After approximately 4 months, a time-activated release valve automatically opens, allowing the balloon to empty and pass out naturally through the gastrointestinal tract.*
